· Know and trust in God’s love.
· Develop a sense of wonder about God’s world.
· Experience the joy of friendships with other children.
· Gain confidence and self
-esteem as a child of God.
· Demonstrate academic readiness for kindergarten.

CURRICULUM

Our theme-based curriculum emphasizes an integrated approach to teaching and learning. The themes relate to the seasons of the year or developmentally appropriate topics for preschoolers. Using Creative Curriculum as a guide, each theme is designed to teach whole language, phonics, math, science, fine and large motor development, social and emotional development, art and music.

Learning extends to our outdoor playground where children are encouraged to run, climb, crawl and play.

We believe children need to make choices everyday!

Music and Movement
At Fist Presbyterian Preschool, music and movement are incorporated into daily classroom experiences. Additionally, we have a teacher who specializes in teaching music to our students twice a week.

Chapel
God’s word and stories are a vital part of learning and preparing students for the future. Each Wednesday our preschool attends Chapel with one of our pastors. It is always full of learning, laughter and singing His praises.

We plan a daily schedule and follow it consistently to help make the children feel secure and independent. Activities include:
  • Active and quiet learning times
  • Large and small group activities
  • Time to play alone and with others
  • Indoor and outdoor experiences
  • Self-selected and teacher directed activities

Classrooms are designed to help children learn from their environment with:

  • Well-defined interest centers including dramatic play, art, library, writing , computer, listening center, sensory, blocks and manipulatives.
  • Materials that enhance learning in all subject areas such as math, science, reading, writing, literacy, music and art so that whenever the children choose to play, they are learning.
  • Everything placed within their reach so the children are able to do things for themselves, to gain confidence and independence.

Train a child in the way

he should go

and when he is old

OUR PARENTS

We strive to keep parents updated on upcoming events and happenings at the preschool. Some of the ways we communicate with our families are through:

Social Media
We share pictures of daily classroom activities, information on scheduled events, volunteer opportunities, all on a closed and private Facebook page. Only current families and staff members have access to our page.

Newsletters and Lesson Plans
Teachers of each class prepare a weekly newsletter/lesson plan to inform parents of skills to be covered, curriculum plans and insights into the classroom activities and events.

Helping Hands Committee
We love our volunteers. You can volunteer for special projects, classroom activities, decorating for large events and more.
